Vincent van Gogh

Birth Year : 1853
Death Year : 1890
Country : Netherlands

Vincent van Gogh, for whom colour was the chief symbol of expression, was born in Groot-Zundert, Holland. The son of a pastor, brought up in a religious and cultured atmosphere, Vincent was highly emotional and lacked self-confidence.
Between 1860 and 1880, when he finally decided
to become an artist, van Gogh had had two unsuitable and unhappy romances and had worked unsuccessfully as a clerk in a bookstore, an art salesman, and a preacher in the Borinage (a dreary mining district in Belgium), where he was dismissed for overzealousness. He remained in Belgium to study art, determined to give happiness by creating beauty. The works of his early Dutch period are sombre-toned, sharply lit, genre paintings of which the most famous is "The Potato Eaters" (1885). In that year van Gogh went to Antwerp where he discovered the works of Rubens and purchased many Japanese prints.

Weekend

My favourite part of the weekend was the excurtion to london on saturday. I liked the museum, because it's very modern, exciting and funny. But the thing I liked best was the shopping. I went with my friend and we looked in many shops. I bought a polluver and a jeans. After that we went tierd back to Queenswood.

Weekend

I’m going to tell you what I did at the weekend.
On Friday, we went the first time to the theatre as assembly. There, the drama groups (juniors and seniors) were acting. The junior drama group did a scary play. I think it was quite good, but not that scary. The seniors played a peace from Shakespeare. (Romeo and Juliet)
After that documents for different things were distributed and some good bloggs were shown.

The next day we went to Cambridge. There we had a lot of free time to go shopping… My friend and I walked around the streets looking in different shops but in the end we only bought postcards. The shopping trip went very quick and we went back to Queenswood. After that we had dinner and then we had a disco. The music was OK, and we had a lot of fun.

Sunday was really relaxed, because I didn’t go to the Thorpe Park. I just played Tennis, Softball and went to the computer.

It was a good weekend but it was very short.

Excursion

Yesterday, we went to London on our excursion about ghosts and scary places in London. Our guide, who looked a bit strange, showed us around the streets of London and explained everything. She told us about monks and how they were chosen and killed. (very hard) After that, she showed us the golden boy, Old Bailey and other ghosts.
After this part of the excursion we went to the Tower of London and had about two and a half hour to walk by ourselves around. I visited with my friend the Crown jewels, which were very impressive, also if we had to wait for a long time. We looked at a few towers with pictures, statues etc…
After that we went tired back to Queenswood.

About the classes at Queenswood

In my blog about the classes, I am going to talk about our teachers, classes and experience at Queenswood. The first thing I am going to comment on is the meeting that took place in the pool-hall at 9.00 in the morning. There, the staff told us all about activities, excursions, etc... We also played different games that helped us to meet other pupils. After that the Juniors and Seniors were devided and I'm as Junior went into the ABC, the acedemic building and we played more games after we went with our teacher to our classroom and we started with the education. I like all the teacher I have and I like my class:)
